Brief History

Luciana Teruz was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1961 and since then she has lived surrounded by the green of Tijuca Forest, with its trees, fauna, sounds and colors. This devoted love for nature, which has always been present in her life, later on would be projected in the universe of her art.

Third generation of a family of painters, Luciana grew up in the middle of canvases and easels, mixing inks and handling spatulas and brushes. She started her learning process in the painting activities by preparing and restoring canvases in the atelier of her grandfather Orlando Teruz, together with her father Rogerio Teruz. This first practical experience was essential to the developing of her artistic skills.

Women's universe, children and elements of nature with all their diversity are frequent themes in the art of Luciana, who has developed her own artistic language focused in the human figure. In her oil paintings, the valorization of composition, the balance of intense and vibrant colors, the transparency and the luminosity of hues prove that sensibility and refined technique can come together.

Beyond her work as an artist, Luciana has dedicated herself to other activities like photography, graphic projects and the management of the Teruz Museum and the Teruz School of Art. As an expert in the art of Orlando Teruz, she keeps until today a work of preservation, restoration and cataloguing of one of the greatest Brazilian painters.

Having spent a period of time in the USA and participated in exhibitions in Brazil and abroad, Luciana Teruz has been consolidating her artistic language, showing a mature work widely respected in the world of fine arts.
